Faithful Friday

Mark 9:24

Happy Faithful Friday! I pray today’s message strengthens you as you head into the weekend.

There are moments in life when we think we’re fully surrendered to God, confident, steady, and grounded in faith. But then something unexpected happens… a familiar struggle resurfaces, a situation becomes uncomfortable, or a prayer feels unanswered. Suddenly, the faith we thought was firm reveals doubt we didn’t know was there. That’s exactly what we see in Mark 9.

A father brings his demon‑possessed son to Jesus. This boy has suffered since childhood, and in desperation the father says, “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” That small phrase “If you can” exposes the doubt he didn’t even realize he carried. Jesus responds, “Everything is possible for one who believes.” And the father’s reply is one of the most honest, relatable prayers in all of Scripture:

“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief.”

This man did have faith, enough faith to bring his son to Jesus. But he also recognized the weakness within himself. His confession wasn’t a failure… It was evidence of genuine faith, and the acknowledgement that he also lacks faith. As Charles Spurgeon once said:

“While men have no faith, they are unconscious of their unbelief; but, as soon as they get a little faith, then they begin to be conscious of the greatness of their unbelief.”

So let this encourage and motivate you today:

Your faith doesn’t have to be flawless. Your belief doesn’t have to be unwavering. Your confidence doesn’t have to be perfect.

Why?
Because Jesus is the One who perfects it.

Hebrews 12:2 reminds us that He is both the author and the perfecter of our faith. He is the One who begins it, sustains it, strengthens it, and brings it to completion. Our role is simply to come to Him honestly, just like the father in Mark 9, and say:

"Lord, I believe; help my unbelief."

And He does. He meets us in the gap between what we believe and what we struggle to believe. He fills in the weakness with His strength. He grows what feels small. He steadies what feels shaky. Your imperfect faith in the hands of a perfect Savior is more powerful than you realize.

Our Mission

Faith Race exists to encourage Christians to put God first. The Bible often depicts our relationship with Christ as a race. We are not waiting for the starting gun, we're already running. This race isn't an escape when hardships arise, it is a constant decision that is made moment by moment, to run with perseverance and to be obedient to God's plan. Our life is one Faith Race where each decision is a stride closer to the finish line: eternal communion with Christ in heaven.
